Given the constantly shifting nature of the real estate market, it’s a bit of a misnomer to claim there is a PERFECT time to sell your home. But when it comes down to how the changing seasons affect home sales, agents universally agree that fall is one of the very best times of the year to place your home on the market.
Here’s why:
- Summer Vacations Are Over.
Families have now settled back into their routines of work and school, and serious homebuyers who have been gone all summer are now back in action and ready to make moves. This new crop of focused buyers is in addition to those buyers who house-shopped all summer but haven’t yet found the right fit.
- Avoid Holiday Craziness.
Local housing inventory is still very low, so the few homes that become available often sell very quickly. By prepping and listing your home now, you will most likely be handing the keys over to the new owners well before the hectic holiday season is underway!
- Executives Are On The Hunt.
When local companies make new executive hires in Q4, these executives (who are often out-of-area) will be aiming to find, buy, and move into a Bay Area home before the new year. Buyers in this group are extremely motivated, so they’ll be willing to make you a compelling offer.
- Enjoy Less Competition.
In general, there are fewer homes on the market now than during the popular spring selling season. Less homes on the market means less competition for you! Your home has a much stronger chance of being found by ambitious buyers who are eager to move in before the holidays.
