Few times throughout the year is the Bay Area’s rich diversity more evident than summertime, when residents from all over the world hold festivals commemorating their cultures and traditions.

Here are just a few local favorites, and they all take place in the next few weeks!

 

Belmont Greek Festival | Aug. 31-Sept. 1

Holy Cross Church transforms into a miniature village during this event, which has grown into a Bay Area staple over the last half-century. Tour the church, browse traditional wares, feast on Greek dishes, and enjoy a lineup of live dance and musical performances.

Fremont India Day Fair | Aug. 17 & 18

Prepare to be dazzled by the multicolored traditional outfits showcased throughout the course of this two-day festival. Explore 120+ booths and exhibits, and witness the event’s signature parade, complete with lively Indian music and dance troupes.

Pleasanton Scottish Games | Aug. 31-Sept. 1

Still going strong after more than 150 years, this beloved competition features a number of treasured Scottish traditions, including sheepdog trials, archery, highland dancing, and many more. Feeling adventurous? Sign up for the Kilted Mile, the only kilted running event in the whole state!

San Jose Assyrian Food Festival | Aug. 17 & 18

Don’t let the name fool you—this local attraction offers far more than food. Enjoy a Kid Zone, arts and crafts, live music, and traditional dances, all in addition to a smorgasbord of Assyrian delicacies and the delicious teas and coffees found onsite at Samovar Alley.
